On June 11th and 12th, the Barrier Orchestra performed a new composition “Det kommer främmande” by Ann Rosén, Fabian Svensson and Sten-Olof Hellström at Vardagsrummet in the small village of Östra Hoby. The title alludes to the Swedish expression “we’re having guests” which literally translates to “there will be strangers coming”, with a two-fold meaning: “strangers” and “guests” being the same word in Swedish, and in this context referring to both “refugees” and “guests”.
The concert performance is formed by the pandemic both in its setting and theme. It received praise in local newspaper Ystads Allehanda saying:
“…a magical experience. The Barrier Orchestra breaks all barriers in Österlen. /…/ It’s venturing, it’s experimental, and it’s undeniably what you can call ‘narrow’ music. But if you open the throttle, it is also very appealing.”
